Happy Chicken Box Friday! A topic of discussion lately on the show has involved a pair of outfielders for the Orioles: Felix Pie and Nolan Reimold. There are a large amounts of people who remember what Pie did in August and September and forget what he did the first 4 months of the season. Pie had a hard time earning at-bats in June and July because rookie Nolan Reimold cemented himself in left field. I think Andy MacPhail did the right thing this offseason when Pie was brought up in trade talks. MacPhail said that he has three outfielders (Adam Jones, Pie, Reimold) who have yet to play 162 games in a season. All good teams have depth, and the Orioles are finally building their team that way. If Pie plays well, (hit a homerun and a triple in his spring training debut) Dave Trembley will find a way to put his name in the lineup. Reimold can DH against left-handed pitchers, and Trembley has the luxury to rest Jones and Nick Markakis without the fear of a big dropoff. The hope is that the Orioles are playing well in August-September, and with 4 healthy outfielders, the risk of tiring at the end of the season will be less. This is a good problem to have, and fans should not be taking sides between Pie and Reimold.
