Ed Reed opened his mouth again yesterday, this time at his football camp. Reed doesn't think the team supports him enough, "I haven't had the support from the other side as you think has been
there," Reed told Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun. "If I don't say it now, it won't ever get said." I think this is why organizations cringe when the offseason begins. They are unable to control what the players say because they are not standing next to them like they do during the season. Reed has been quiet during his career as a Raven and when he does speak, it is in a controlled environment.
It is bad timing for Reed to speak out now as training camp starts next week, but as he said, if it is not said now, it won't be said until next offseason as he will be kept in line during the season by the coaches and his teammates. I just want training camp to begin so we can talk about football, but I would be naive to think that the comments made by Reed, Joe Flacco, and Terrell Suggs during the offseason is a "non-story." I think Coach John Harbaugh will be able to get a handle on everything next week, but there have been too many comments to suggest this can be pushed under the rug.
