A University of Virginia men’s lacrosse player, George Huguely,22, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a U.Va. women’s lacrosse player, according to Charlottesville police.
Huguely is a fourth-year student from Chevy Chase, Md., and is in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, according to a statement from police.
The victim has been identified as Yeardley Love, 22, a fourth-year student from Cockeysville, Md., graduate of Notre Dame Prep, in Towson and a member of the Skywalker Club Lacrosse Team.
According to police there were signs of physical trauma, but a cause of death has not been released.
I found out about this early this morning but out of respect to her family did not want to be the one to break this horribly sad event. Yeardley's death has far reaching effects throughout the lacrosse world and words cannot properly express my condolences to her Mom and sister, Lexie.
