Wright Family mourn Former NBA Players Death
Family, friends mourn for former NBA player Lorenzo Wright #55 According to the A/Press relatives and friends of Lorenzen Wright gathered Wednesday and grieved for the former NBA player who has been missing for 10 days, as police investigated the discovery of a man's body outside of Memphis.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ZvLRAAlPVSQ/SO04AL3tK3I/AAAAAAAAASE/y78n4HrraDA/s400/Lorenzen-Wright-terry_54329.jpg

Wright's uncle, Curtis Wright, told The Associated Press that police called the player's father, Herb Wright, Wednesday afternoon with the news he had died. Sgt. Alyssa Macon-Moore of the Memphis Police Department wrote in an e-mail to the AP that police were investigating the death of an unidentified man beside a wooded area about 15 miles south of downtown Memphis. Asked if the man was Wright, she wrote they could not confirm the victim's identity Wednesday night. The family issued a statement through a cousin of Lorenzen Wright, Camella Logan: ``Lorenzen's family has come together to mourn his loss and honor his legacy. We appreciate your thoughts, prayers and condolences as they are comforting at this very difficult time.

Additionally, we ask that you please respect our privacy as we try to cope with his sudden loss.'' Wright's mother, Deborah Marion, arrived at the scene Wednesday night with a handful of family members. She crossed the crime scene tape and tried to talk to police when she was told to move back. She sat in a TV van before returning to the tape. Two officers then let her through. The distraught Marion then started running down the road toward the crime scene before being stopped by an officer. She spoke with officers, then walked back past reporters without speaking straight to a van. The 34-year-old Wright was last seen July 18 when he was expected to fly out of town. His family filed a missing person report July 22. Wright played 13 years in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and most recently the Cleveland Cavaliers with 17 games in the 2008-09 season.

Wright left the University of Memphis early for the NBA, and the Clippers made him a lottery pick with the No. 7 selection overall. He averaged 8 points and 6.4 rebounds in 778 career games. By nightfall, nearly 200 people had visited the road blocked off by police while TV news helicopters showed investigators scouring the grounds for evidence. Police brought in a mobile command center that further blocked off the scene.

Former NBA star Penny Hardaway, who played at Memphis two years before Wright, said he heard the news from a friend and went to the scene near where the body was found. ``I cried. The emotions hit me immediately. It's just sad because we lost a good person and a brother,'' Hardaway said. Memphis Grizzlies majority owner Michael Heisley issued a statement late Wednesday saying, ``We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Lorenzen Wright. We lost a member of the Grizzlies family. Lorenzen delighted fans on the court with his passion and off the court with his generosity in a Memphis community that watched him grow throughout his playing career."

The " Rob Long Show" expresses it's deep sympathies to the Wright family.

USC Forgets to Minus the Reggie
Thanks to USCfootball.com for this tid bit. USC issued a new media guide yesterday including Reggie's heisman in it's totals---

Whoops they had to do it again and issued another new media guide this morning with one adjustment.. This is yet another attempt to remove RB from USC's history...

http://ll-media.tmz.com/2010/07/28/0728-usc-football-bn02.jpg

Somebody forgot to remove Bush from the Heisman count the first time around ... so they reissued the media guide this morning ... with the new math.

As everyone knows-- USC is removing all traces of Bush from the university after the NCAA ruled that Reggie received improper benefits while playing for the Trojans. Thanks again to USCfootball.com for the heads up !!

What is in the Dallas Water?
On the heels of getting over the jokes about former Dallas Coach, Jimmy Johnson and his pitching (a tent) --for a male enhancement product --now this...

Dallas Cowboys star tight end Martellus Bennett claims he refuses to be distracted by some very naked photos of himself that have surfaced on the web ... but emphasized that he's "openly single."

http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0eO9eXwgv637j/340x.jpg

Earlier today, a self-shot camera phone nudie pic began circulating on the web -- but Bennett's rep tells us the NFL star has no idea who could have posted it ... or when it was even taken. Bennett's rep tells us they're pretty confident the mystery poster is not a bitter former girlfriend ... stating , "Martellus has been single – openly single – for quite some time." The rep adds, "At the end of the day – this is not something he is going to focus on."

Well Mr. REP--- he should be focusing on being a tight end instead of his JOHNSON.

Congrats Carmello Anthony
Baltimore native and Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony and LaLa Vazquez have wed yesterday in New York City. The wedding took place Saturday night at the Manhattan restaurant Cipriani. (great choice) LaLa- 30 years old and 26-year-old Anthony were escorted down the aisle by their 3-year-old son, Kiyan. According to my sources the bride wore a Vera Wang gown and carried a bouquet of red and hot pink flowers. Spotted in the over 300 crowd were Kim Kardashian, Serena Williams, Spike Lee and LeBron James. Vazquez, a former MTV VJ, and Anthony, an All-Star forward, were engaged in 2004. Hmmmm?? You have a 3-year old-and have been engaged since 2004? What's up with that?? I say it's ABOUT TIME!!!

Miami Wants Derek Fisher
The Miami Heat haven't finished searching for talent -- I hear that LeBron James' new team wants Los Angeles Lakers superstar Derek Fisher.

http://hingedman.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/040513_derekfisher_vmed_8pwidec.jpg

Well-placed NBA sources tell my sources that Fisher -- who has 5 championship rings -- has been contacted by several members of the Heat organization including multiple players. We're told Fisher -- who is a free agent -- is slated to be in Miami Saturday to hear a proposal from Miami Heat Prez Pat Riley.

According to multiple media outlets Fisher already has an offer on the table from the Lakers -- but it isn't a whopper of one. Does the Heat have enough cash left to bring the Fisher to South Beach? Stay tuned....

LBJ-The Coldest Cut of All
Not only did LeBron James crush Cleveland he couldn't have possibly predicted just how much he'd piss off New Yorkers last night -- because now he's facing the wrap-I mean wrath from the most powerful/popular Jewish deli ever.

http://www.junkfoodnews.net/WENDYS-FRESCATA-400.jpg

The globally known Carnegie Deli is sticking it to LeBron the best way it can ... by pulling a sandwich off the menu named after Lebron. See, a few weeks ago when LeBron was pretending to be interested in the Knicks, the deli created a sandwich in his honor .

A foot-high turkey, pastrami, corned beef, brisket, American cheese, lettuce, tomato spectacle stacked on rye bread. But now that LeBron failed to take a bite out of the Big Apple ... the deli is dumping the sammich. Price of the former menu item: $19.95 -- But some things money can't buy ... like loyalty or now the sammich Courtesy Photo (TMZ)

NCAA Looking into Kentucky B-Ballers
Celeb gossip site TMZ has learned the NCAA is taking an aggressive look at University of Kentucky basketball players -- past and current -- and their possible involvement with professional agents.

http://bluejaybasketball.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/kentucky-wildcats.jpeg

According to a source who was interviewed by an NCAA investigator, the agency is interested in at least four players -- two current and two who were just drafted by NBA teams. In the case of one former Wildcat, we're told the NCAA wants to know about his relationship with his current agent.

We're told the investigator asked about multiple meetings the agent allegedly had with the player ... dating back to the player's senior year in high school. The insinuation is the agent had an arrangement with the player before he went to Kentucky.

It is a violation of NCAA rules for a student athlete to receive anything of value from an agent -- or to have any agreements, verbally or in writing, with an agent. Just ask USC, Reggie Bush or OJ Mayo.

The NCAA and Kentucky has not returned my sources calls yet. More to follow... Special thanks to my friends @ TMZ for always getting me the sports dish.

Ex-QB Cunningham’s son, 2, drowns in hot tub According to Comcast.net former NFL star Randall Cunningham’s 2-year-old son was found drowned in a backyard hot tub at his Las Vegas home, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported late Tuesday.

The child was discovered at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday by a woman and several children at Cunningham’s house. The woman removed the boy from the water and attempted to perform CPR, Las Vegas police Lt. Dennis Flynn said.

The death was being investigated by abuse and neglect detectives, but Flynn said the drowning appeared to be an accident. Cunningham, 47, played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings before retiring in 2002. Our sincere sympathies...

Attorney Gets The Save
Lawyer Gets Clutch Save at Dodgers Game AND no It's not Angelos. The L.A. Dodgers weren't the only ones who choked on Sunday night -- a fan in the VIP area needed assistance as he started to choke after getting some food lodged in his throat ... and his help came from the lawyer for the estranged wife of Dodgers owner Frank McCourt. It happened in the "Dugout Club" at Dodger Stadium -- the special area where all the VIP fans gather-- when a middle-aged man began choking. According to my sources another man rushed to his aid and began performing the Heimlich maneuver ... and dislodged the meat product. But our hero wasn't any ordinary baseball fan -- it was Marshall Grossman ... the lawyer representing ousted L.A. Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt in a very messy divorce. My question is how did Grossman get on Frank's McCourt's turf VIP area in the first place ... but thank God he was. We hear that after the rescue Marshall told the man he saved, "Next time you have a medical emergency, call a lawyer." Now that's funny...

Former Tennis Star Hospitalized
Jennifer Capriati Hospitalized After Apparent OD I have learned from my sources that former teen tennis star Jennifer Capriati was rushed to the hospital early this morning after paramedics responded to a call for a possible overdose. The call came from a hotel in Riviera Beach, FL. Capriati was transported to a nearby hospital. Jennifer's father spoke and said "she's recovering well." Capriati won 14 career titles, including three Grand Slams. She also won a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics. Years ago Capriati had a bout with drug use but seemed to have gotten through it... Until now. Thanks to my contacts at TMZ for the heads up.

Karma for Tiki Barber
Former NFL star Tiki Barber is taking more hits in his retirement than he ever received on the field. Some say it couldn't happen to a better scum bag. Publicly humiliated for leaving his then-eight-months-pregnant wife Ginny for 23-year-old former NBC intern Traci Lynn Johnson, Barber now claims that he is broke and can't afford a divorce settlement. According to Page Six, Barber cries that his career is in the gutter since losing his $300,000 network contract with NBC. Tiki hasn't been on the air in many months -- but my sources say his contract was only formally terminated in May. Network insiders said the "Today" show execs secretly ended their relationship with Barber due to a hidden "morality clause" which specified that stars must not be involved in public scandals. Barber has four children with his estranged wife, including newborn twins. Its been reported that Tiki was banned from the delivery room while his wife was giving birth. Apparently Barber also has canceled promotional appearances for his Flywheel cycling gyms in the wake of the scandal. Tiki--- Karma is truly a bitch AND so are you!

Batista News-Part 2
As I reported yesterday, Batista may have left the WWE, but one of his most hated rivals is talking trash -- stating that the former heavyweight wrestling champ is gonna get whooped when he (Batista) starts fighting for real in MMA. My sources spoke with WWE legend Booker T. -- who clashed with Batista in a real-life throwdown in 2006 -- and Booker told my mole that he doesn't think Batista can "match up" with some of the big boys in Strikeforce. Booker also claims that the 40-something-year-old wouldn't "last 5 minutes" in the ring with another WWE-star-turned-MMA-powerhouse -- Bobby Lashley. In yesterday's blog I reported, Batista claim that the wheels may already be in motion for his first fight ... Wonder if he'll get in the ring with Lashley? Stay Tuned... (courtesy photo)

The 6'5", 290 pounder was out in Hollywood this weekend -- where he told a member of the press/publicly about the move ... and hinted that he already has his first fight lined up. The 40-something-year-old recently left WWE after his contract expired ... and there had been rumors floating around that he wanted to get into Mixed Martial Arts fighting. Now, with the rumors confirmed, we gotta ask ... In the MMA he will---- a) Dominate-----b) Fail ??

Vince Young Defends His Longhorns
Vince Young Fight over Longhorn Smack Talk There was a strip club brawl involving Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young and it was all over two things -- the University of Texas and cash money, according to sources from the Club Onyx. According to multiple sources who were inside Club Onyx stated that the fight started when Vince went to take money out at the "cash cage." We're told Vince was complaining about a surcharge to withdraw money -- and that's when the manager got involved. (Really Vince?) We're told the manager is from Oklahoma and flashed an upside down "hook 'em horns" hand signal and said "F**k the Longhorns" to Vince -- who, if you don't know, was a National Championship quarterback for the University of Texas Longhorns. That's when Vince allegedly punched the manager in the face and had to be taken out of the club, according to sources. Vince's reps haven't gotten back to me yet. According to police records, Vince was issued a Class C assault citation today, which carries up to a $500 fine. Apparently there is, you guessed it----a video of the incident. Bet the surcharge was a bit less than the $500 fine. Anyone wanna guess what the commish will do next?

The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) has announced that the United States will be the host country of the 2014 FIL Men’s World Championship in Denver, Colorado. The championship games will be held at Dick's Sporting Goods Park from July 10 to 19, 2014. As many as 38 countries are expected to compete. "US Lacrosse is looking forward to hosting the 2014 World Championship in Denver," said US Lacrosse’s President and CEO, Steve Stenersen. "The rapid growth of the sport, especially in the Midwest and West, was a factor in selecting Denver as the host city. There has never been a major international lacrosse competition held away from the East Coast. We felt this was the perfect opportunity to make the best lacrosse in the world easily accessible to the entire country." In the fall of 2008, US Lacrosse launched a national search by working with the National Association of Sports Commissions. Ten cities applied, three finalists were selected and Denver was identified as the premier site based on several qualifying factors. "US Lacrosse presented a strong bid to the FIL Board and we were impressed with the homework US Lacrosse had done to select a site in a non-traditional location," said FIL President Feffie Barnhill. "FIL is delighted to award the 2014 Men’s World Championship to US Lacrosse and, based on their prior experiences of hosting events, we are confident this event will be a huge success for both the FIL and US Lacrosse. The selection of Denver as the host city will provide the players and officials with a unique experience. The facilities are excellent and there is great support for lacrosse in the area." Our lacrosse fans are among the most passionate in the country and not only will it be a great event for our city but for the entire U.S. lacrosse community," said Denver Sports President KieAnn Brownell. In addition to the FIL Men’s World Championship games and the opening and closing ceremonies, US Lacrosse will host ancillary youth and masters festivals at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The event will also include an International Village consisting of live entertainment, food vendors and a Vendor Village with product retailers. Nearly 1,000 athletes will compete in the 2014 championship games with over 100,000 spectators expected to attend. The first time the U.S. hosted the men’s World Championship was in 1982 in Baltimore, Md. where the U.S. beat Australia for the gold by a score of 22-14. The winning streak spanned 38 games through seven World Championships. America has also hosted two women’s World Cups (1986 in Philadelphia, Pa. and 2005 in Annapolis, Md.), two U19 men’s World Championships (1992 in Long Island, N.Y. and 2003 in Baltimore, Md.), and two U19 women’s World Championships (1995 in Haverford, Pa. and 2003 in Baltimore, Md.). Virginia Women's Lacrosse Season Ends
The Virginia Women's Lacrosse team held their heads high as its season ended yesterday and today Seniors will walk the lawn for the class of 2010's graduation. Since the death of the senior defender Yeardley Love, the Virginia women’s lacrosse team stepped away from its campus, away from the place where memories of Love — both sadness and disbelief — remain raw. The Cavaliers’ N.C.A.A. tournament quarterfinal against North Carolina yesterday was quite different to their first-round win at home over Towson last weekend. Yesterday, there was no national television broadcast, no family members, and tributes to Love were less prevalent. Beside from a pregame moment of silence, the game went along like any other. And for Virginia, that provided a welcome, brief, return to something normal, even if the final result did not. North Carolina, (3rd Seeded) defeated the sixth-seeded Cavaliers, 17-7. North Carolina will take on Northwestern in a national semifinal Friday in Towson, Maryland, at the Johnny Unitas Stadium. Even though Virginia's season has ended thoughts of Yeardley will remain. “We’ll always have Yeardley in our hearts,” the senior midfielder Kaitlin Duff said. “She wouldn’t have wanted us to sit around and be sad.” Love was found dead in her apartment May 3. George Huguely, who was a senior on Virginia’s men’s lacrosse team and who had dated Love, has been charged with first-degree murder. Love’s mother, Sharon Donnelly, and sister, Lexie, wished the team good luck in an email sent to head Coach Julie Myers. When the game ended, many lady Cavaliers fought back tears as the fans stood and applauded as the players approached. “I think every day we’ve been together has been a positive day,”Coach Myers said. “It’s taken a lot of energy for us to just go through the steps of a normal day, but I think our team has gotten stronger.” Virginia’s seniors will graduate today, and Love will be awarded her degree posthumously. The university is going to hand out white ribbons at the graduation to raise awareness of domestic abuse and violence. Yesterday the Virginia players honored Love by wearing the same warm-up T-shirts and the same black patches on their jerseys as they did against Towson. The North Carolina players wore orange sweatbands — one of Virginia’s signature colors — on their arms. “I don’t think there’s any way you can really move on from this,” the Virginia senior midfielder Brittany Kalkstein (Roland Park Country School-2006) said. “I think it’s going to be in our thoughts forever.” Virginia's 14-6 record faced a talented North Carolina team that lost last year in the 2009 national championship game against Northwestern. The Tar Heels (17-2) burst to a 9-1 first-half lead and were not threatened after that. Laura Zimmerman scored four times and the senior goalie Logan Ripley had seven saves. “You just learn a lot about life and each other and who to lean on for support and how to give someone support,” Kalkstein said. “That’s something I think we’ll definitely take into the rest of our lives.” If you would like to make a contribution to the Yeardley Love Memorial Fund (YLMF) mail your donation to Notre Dame Prep ( Yeardley's High school) 815 Hampton Lane, Towson, Md. 21286 On the other side, Syracuse Orange women will take on our Maryland Terps in the semi-finals next weekend.

B'Rob Hospitalized
Brian Roberts Hospitalized, Michael Aubrey Headed to Baltimore Brian Roberts’ nightmare season continues. According to The Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec, Roberts was hospitalized on Wednesday with pneumonia while the O’s suffered a series opening loss to the Texas Rangers. He was scheduled to make his extended Spring Training debut tomorrow. Of course, according to Orioles President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail, things with BRob are just swell. “We don’t anticipate that it’s going to be anything that impacts his rehabilitation schedule,” MacPhail told The Sun. Err, your star second baseman was supposed to finally start working his way back to playing. Instead, he’s in the hospital. That’s pretty much the definition of “impact[ing] his rehabilitation schedule.” It’s not Brian Roberts’ fault that he has pneumonia, unless he went out in the rain without his coat. But why must MacPhail continue his “What, me worry?” routine? When a $40 million dollar player shows up to Spring Training with a back ailment, that is cause for concern. MacPhail has a responsibility not to show panic, but his consistent insistence that the sky is green is wearing thin. A simple, “We hope that Brian has a full recovery. Our thoughts are with him at this time” would suffice. You see, I can come up with something that is neither alarmist nor insultingly unrealistic, and tact isn’t exactly my specialty. Meanwhile, multiple sources are reporting that Norfolk first baseman Michael Aubrey will be called up to the bigs on Friday. Zrebiec believes Alberto Castillo will be sent down, but the true culprit here is, of course, Garrett Atkins. Atkins is still homerless. He is the only first baseman in the major leagues with at least 100 at bats and 0 homers. There are 4.5 million reasons Atkins has not been released, despite the fact that he isn’t even hitting for power in batting practice. Aubrey has been hot at Norfolk, but like Rhyne Hughes, Aubrey is probably not a long-term solution. He will, however, relegate Atkins to the bench. If the O’s aren’t willing to put Garrett out of his misery and on the streets, the end of the bench will have to do. I wonder if MacPhail will tell Atkins that all is well when he does finally send him packing. Got this information from Examiner.com Oriole Examiner Jay Trucker

Big Ben is Out Clubbin

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger participated in a charity golf tournament hosted by his teammates yesterday, according to my sources at wpxi.com. It has been a while since anyone has spotted Roethlisberger at an event. Steelers’ Hines Ward and Max Starks and former Steeler Merril Hoge hosted the Celebrity Golf Classic for Children at Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg. The event raises support and awareness for the Highmark Caring Place, a center for grieving children, adolescents and their families. “It’s a great event. I’ve been a part of it for 9 or 10 years,” said Hines Ward. Roethlisberger spoke publicly that he was there to support his teammates’ event.

Teammates said they were happy to see him off the field and at an event. “Now, it’s working on how to get things back on the right track. Having him out here today -- I’m glad to have him here. His suspension is what it is. Life isn’t over for him. He has to go on,” said Ward. Roethlisberger was suspended for six games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, a punishment resulting from a March 3 incident in which he was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old college student in a Milledgeville, Ga., nightclub. He was not charged. Photo Courtesy of wpxi.com

Cavaliers Lax Season Will Continue
FROM : The Cavalier Journal................................................................................................................... In wake of Yeardley Love's killing, U-Va. men's and women's lacrosse will finish season Both the Virginia men's and women's lacrosse teams will compete in their respective NCAA tournaments following the death of former women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love, Athletic Director Craig Littlepage announced as part of a Tuesday statement. Former men's lacrosse player George Huguely has been charged with Love's murder. Littlepage consulted with each team's coaches and with Love's family before announcing the decision, according Jim Daves, a spokesman for school's athletic department. "A part of their healing will be getting our students back into some of their routines," Littlepage said in the statement. "In the case of the women's and men's programs, our lacrosse teams will honor Yeardley by continuing their seasons. We anticipate both teams will be selected for the NCAA Tournaments and they will represent the University of Virginia as they always have." There had been speculation since the details of the murder were released about whether the teams would compete in the postseason. The men's team is ranked No. 1 and the women's team is ranked No. 5. The tournament begins on May 15 and 16 on campus sites. Read Littlepage's full statement below: "The loss of any young person is tragic. When that young person has the talent, personality, and potential of someone like Yeardley Love, the loss goes much deeper. "Yesterday President Casteen wrote a moving message about Yeardley to the University community. His thoughts were presented eloquently and powerfully, summarizing the uniquely talented student that Yeardley Love was. In comments made by her teammates and friends, Yeardley was described as an 'angel' and the type of person who would light up any room. She was a dedicated student-athlete and a natural leader. "We are all heartbroken that we will not see the full potential that this wonderful young woman would have brought to our lives and to our community. Our primary focus now will be on Yeardleys family and the young women and young men on our lacrosse teams. "The students are under tremendous stress and have experienced a huge loss. Our students welfare will be continually observed over the coming days and weeks so that we are poised to ensure they are healing and coping as best as can be expected. Beginning with the early morning hours on Monday, the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Dean of Students, and Counseling and Psychological Services deployed staff to assist our lacrosse student-athletes. "A part of their healing will be getting our students back into some of their routines. In the case of the womens and mens programs, our lacrosse teams will honor Yeardley by continuing their seasons. We anticipate both teams will be selected for the NCAA Tournaments and they will represent the University of Virginia as they always have. "In the past 24 hours numerous individuals throughout college athletics and higher education have expressed their concern and support for the University of Virginia. Their thoughtful words are appreciated at this difficult time. "I am proud of the dignified way in which our students and coaches have responded to such a traumatic situation. The parents of our students also have my appreciation for the way in which they mobilized, and joined us as plans were put together to assist the teams. Finally, it is comforting to see how the University community has rallied in support of all who have been touched by Yeardleys life and her passing."

Vigil For Yeardley Love
FROM the student council President.... Any local plans for Yeardley Love will be posted as soon I get them... Rest in Peace Yeardley. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ U.Va.'s Student Council to Hold Candlelight Vigil for Yeardley Love on May 5 May 4, 2010 Dear Students: This is a difficult time for our community. The violent death of fourth-year student Yeardley Love has left her many friends, classmates, and teammates grief-stricken. Many of us are in shock as to how such an act could occur. Yeardley's death comes at the end of a year marked by other student deaths and acts of violence within the community. At the University-wide memorial service last Friday, we remembered the lives of six of our fellow students who had passed away during this school year. Little did we know that we would experience another loss so soon within our community. Student Council feels it is important to come together during this sad time. As a means of uniting the entire community, we will be holding a candlelight vigil tomorrow evening, May 5, at 8 p.m. in the Amphitheatre. President John Casteen, Fourth-Year Class President Sarah Elaine Hart, and I will offer brief remarks, accompanied by musical tributes and the candlelight vigil. The program will last about an hour and is open to all. Although I know this is a busy, stressful time for students just as we start exams, I hope you will come tomorrow evening for this opportunity to reach out to one another in comfort, support, and unity. For more information, please visit www.uvastudentcouncil.com. Sincerely, Colin Hood Student Council President

Notre Dame Prep Grad Murdered
A University of Virginia men’s lacrosse player, George Huguely,22, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a U.Va. women’s lacrosse player, according to Charlottesville police. Huguely is a fourth-year student from Chevy Chase, Md., and is in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, according to a statement from police. The victim has been identified as Yeardley Love, 22, a fourth-year student from Cockeysville, Md., graduate of Notre Dame Prep, in Towson and a member of the Skywalker Club Lacrosse Team. According to police there were signs of physical trauma, but a cause of death has not been released. I found out about this early this morning but out of respect to her family did not want to be the one to break this horribly sad event. Yeardley's death has far reaching effects throughout the lacrosse world and words cannot properly express my condolences to her Mom and sister, Lexie.

Corey Dillon-Part 2
A source close to retired NFL star Corey Dillon tells MY source at TMZ that the ex-running back is adamant that he didn't lay a hand on his wife this past weekend -- but he may have splashed her with soy sauce. As I first reported, Dillon was arrested for felony spousal abuse at his home in Calabasas last night after his wife, Desiree Dillon, called 911 claiming she had been assaulted. Our source says Corey admits that he and his wife -- who filed for divorce last month -- were having a heated verbal argument during dinner when they began "throwing water and soy sauce" at each other ... but Corey vehemently denies that he roughed up Desiree. Well we all know Corey has had a problem with the sauce. Tee-hee... Corey was eventually released on $50,000 bail. (photo courtesy of TMZ)

Corey Dillon- How the Mighty FALL
Former NFL star with the Bengal's & Patriots- Corey Dillon was arrested(again) last night in Calabasas, CA on allegations of spousal abuse. According L.A. County Sheriff's Department, Dillon's estranged wife, Desiree, called 911 claiming she had been assaulted. According to the report, she suffered minor injuries. Police report the alleged assault occurred at their home during an argument over a pending divorce and child custody issues. Desiree filed for divorce last month. Dillon was held on $50,000 bail and later released. Corey was also arrested back on April for DUI. HMM ??? Seems this four-time Pro Bowl running back with the Cincinnati Bengals and a member of the Super Bowl winning New England Patriots in 2005 is going down a bad spiral...

Chris Perry Arrested
Former NFL running back Chris Perry was arrested in Brooklyn yesterday, after cops say he got in a fist fight with a family member. NICE... Law enforcement sources report -- the 2003 Heisman Trophy finalist -- was arrested in his grandmother's home after he allegedly punched his cousin in the face after an argument. The arrest comes almost 6 years -- to the day -- from when the Michigan standout was selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals ... who ultimately cut the running back from the squad in 2009. Thank you to my buddy at TMZ.com for the information

No Dancin' Shoes For The Iron Man
Cal Ripken: I'll Never Dance with the Stars! In an interview with CYInterview.com, Ripken was asked if he ever had any interest in becoming the first baseball player to appear on "Dancing with the Stars" -- to which he responded, "probably not." The Orioles legend admits to having "two left feet"... and although he accomplished almost every imaginable milestone during his 21-year career, he is still "uncomfortable with the attention away from the field." Our hometown hero claims he belongs on a ball field--not a ballroom. Sorry, Tom Bergeron.

Double D's for NFL's Corey Dillon
Corey Dillon -- DUI and Divorce Trouble Retired NFL star Corey Dillon is having a seriously bad month -- he was busted for DUI this morning, and has learned his wife just filed for divorce according to my buddy over at TMZ. Desiree Dillon filed a petition for divorce earlier this month in L.A. County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple has three children and have been married for 10 years. According to court documents, Desiree wants full legal and physical custody of the kids -- with Corey getting visitation. In the filing, Desiree is asking the former New England Patriots star to fork over cash for spousal support and attorney's fees. As for the alleged DUI -- Corey was pulled over by L.A. County Sheriff's deputies at 3:38am today near Malibu on Mulholland Drive. He was held in custody/released and is expected back in court in June 2010. As for why cops pulled Dillon over to begin with, officers claim they noticed a man in a red Chevy Camaro driving slowly behind them. When cops approached the car, they claim Dillon admitted to drinking earlier in the evening. (Photo courtesy of TMZ)

OU B-Ball Star To Go Pro

OU Hoops Star To Go Pro After Investigation University of Oklahoma basketball star Keith "Tiny" Gallon just pulled a 180 -- deciding to leave school and declare for the NBA draft ... a decision that comes on the heels of an investigation into his ties to a financial advisor. As the new CNN--- TMZ Sports first reported ... documents were obtained and show the freshman hoops star received a $3,000 wire transfer from a former Merrill Lynch advisor. The NCAA and OU subsequently launched investigations into the matter. Results of those investigations have not been announced. Just days before the story was published, Gallon had said he would return for his sophomore year ... wonder what changed his mind? Thanks to my buddies at TMZ for the heads up, or should I say hoops up?

Really Tiger?? Really?

Tiger Woods Parties at Nickelback Concert Tiger Woods partied like a rockstar last night -- leaving his Isleworth compound to hang out backstage at a Nickelback concert in Orlando, according to a source at the show. We're told Woods was shrouded by security backstage at Amway Arena -- while the band did their thing. We know Tiger's a big Nickelback fan -- he's even joined them on stage in the past... though last night he kept a much lower profile, for obvious reasons. No word if Tiger hung around for after parties.

NFL Player in Verbal Bar Fight

NFL Star Jared Allen -- Violent Threat in Bar Fight Minnesota Vikings defensive superstar Jared Allen unleashing one of the nastiest threats ever on a bar patron who allegedly called Jared's fiancee a word that rhymes with "punt." Eeeeks ! A few weeks back Jared and his fiancee were hangin' at the Grapevine bar in Scottsdale, AZ., when some guy allegedly hurled the 4-letter slur at the future Mrs. Quarterback Destroyer. When Jared heard the insult, the 6'6", 270 pound Pro Bowler told the guy, "I'll break your f*cking neck homeboy ... and then I'll write a check to your f*cking name too."

In the video that can be viewed on TMZ.com, a woman can be seen dragging Jared away from the other man. We're told both Jared and the other dude each left the bar without further incident. Jared's rep at EAG Sports management responded, "No matter what, Jared will always protect and defend his family." Sorry good conduct police, but I'm with Allen and EAG Sports management on this one! Thanks to my peeps at TMZ.com for the heads up.

Bad Boys, Bad Boys..Whatcha Gonna Do?
According to comcast.net Browns running back Chris Jennings has been released from jail while authorities determine whether to file charges over allegations he hit a bouncer outside a Cleveland nightclub. Jennings was arrested early Saturday morning. John O'Brien, a spokesman with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department, says Jennings is accused of punching the bouncer in the mouth because he refused to allow Jennings' friend inside without proper attire. O'Brien says the case has been turned over to the county prosecutor's office. It will determine whether to file an assault charge. Browns general manager Tom Heckert says the team is aware of the situation and that it won't comment until it has all pertinent information. It's not clear whether Jennings has an attorney. Jennings rushed for 220 yards and scored one touchdown as a rookie last season.

OH C'Mac...

Former Raven NFL star Chris McAlister is at the center of a nasty legal war with his wife -- who claims Chris kicked her out of their home when she refused to get an abortion according to TMZ.com Marlene McAlister filed court documents to end her 13 month marriage to the former Pro Bowler -- claiming she hasn't seen or heard from the guy since September 2009 ... 5 months before their daughter was born.

In the docs, filed Wednesday in L.A. County Superior Court, Marlene claims she's also "struggling financially" because Chris stopped paying his court ordered spousal support and medical expenses. Marlene is also asking the court for sole custody of their 2-month-old daughter -- with Chris only getting supervised visitation -- because, according to the docs, "[Chris] has a volatile temper." Calls to C'Mac's peeps were not returned. Gotta be honest, I didn't even know he was married. Don't think he did either... Thanks to TMZ.com for this tid bit.

Time Heals All Wounds?

It's been reported over  that Jimmy Irsay and the NFL team from Indianapolis held a party/reunion last Fall for a bunch of the old 1975 old Colts, including ones who never played in Hoosier land and still live in Baltimore. I like a good party as much as the next gal, but this one made me at first angry and then sad. I know that the sportscasters and commentators who did not grow up in Baltimore idolizing our beloved Colts tell me I should be over it by now, but that is easy for them to say. Given the special relationship between that team and this City, you just cant get it if you didnt live it. The love that I and many others had for the Baltimore Colts is a feeling that you cannot just turn off with a switch. It does not have an expiration date like a bottle of beer. Yes, the pain dulls but for me and others, it never goes away completely. Like hives, it flares up when I am exposed to the wrong stimulus. Watching those classy royal blue uniforms and horseshoes on TV or at a live game will usually bring on an episode.

However, nothing stirs it up more than the NFL team from Indy and its owner claiming what is rightfully the Baltimore Colts, and not the Indianapolis Colts. You see, I have a very un-NFL, un-business like view of what counts when it comes to sports teams. To the NFL and the Colts owner, the only thing that counts is legal ownership. Bob Irsay made that painfully clear years ago when he publicly declared that the Colts were his team, not Baltimores team. But to me, the most important word in the name Baltimore Colts was the word Baltimore. What counts the most is not the legal ownership but the ultimate Baltimore Colts fan, Loudy Loudenslager, the great games played in Memorial Stadium, the Colts band and our fabulous fight song, the Colt Corrals, all the great players who only need first names like Johnny, Lenny and Gino, and later the Sack Pack and Bert and Lydell. All of these memories, records and traditions are part of the sports history of Baltimore; they have nothing to do with Indianapolis or the Indianapolis Colts, regardless who owns the team.

I can honestly say that I practice what I preach in this regard. Tragically, because of the NFLs blatant disregard, Baltimore regained NFL football only by taking the Browns from Cleveland. I am not going to get into the debate of whether it was forced or voluntary, but thank god, the Modells left the name, uniforms, traditions and records in Cleveland. Even if they had not, they would never in my mind have been part of the records and tradition once the team moved to Baltimore. They belong to Cleveland whether legally or not. As much as I respect the accomplishments of Jim Brown and the other great Cleveland players, I would have been embarrassed to bring them to Baltimore for some celebration as if they were ours.

So, when the Hall of Fame ignores the distinctions and treats the Baltimore Colts as just an earlier version of the Indianapolis Colts, it hurts. When the pre-Super Bowl media hype treats the Baltimore Colts and Indianapolis Colts as one and the same, it opens old wounds. And, when old Colts, particularly ones who have made Baltimore home, attend a party in Indy that blurs the distinctions, it upsets me once again. Dont get me wrong. It is a free country and they are free to go to whatever parties they want. But, I am also free to not like it.

When Jimmy Irsay wants to treat his franchise like there is no difference except for the geography, he is free to do so. Pardon me, however, if I am not buying into his mea culpas about his despicable father and his so-called attempts to make it right with Baltimore. He had his chance to make things right in 1996 and reportedly he was willing to do the right thing only if he got the right price. If he had done the right thing then and returned the name, uniforms and records, I would be over it by now.

Well, there it is. I got it off my chest and I feel better already. Maybe now, I can follow all that great advice about getting over it. What do I care if Indy has a team? Surely, they deserve a team too and besides, I have my Baltimore Ravens, which I love passionately. Actually, I wish that I could really believe that I was over it. It is no fun feeling those pangs of nostalgia. But, somehow I feel like I will be breaking out in hives again when I am watching the Super Bowl on Sunday.

For Immediate Release                                                                   February 4, 2010

BABE'S BIRTHDAY BASH POSTPONED ONE WEEK

DUE TO PENDING SNOW STORM

Babe Ruth Museum Moving Event to Friday, February 12

Baltimore,  MD  -  The  Babe  Ruth  Museum  today  announced  that  they  are  postponing  the  "Babe's  Birthday Bash" event scheduled for Friday, February 5 by one week because of the pending inclement weather scheduled to arrive in the Baltimore area tomorrow.  The new date for the Bash is Friday, February 12.

"Since weather forecasts are predicting the snow will begin Friday morning and continue through Saturday, we felt the appropriate thing to do was postpone the Bash by one week," stated the Museum's Executive Director Mike Gibbons. "With the potential for 12 to 20 inches of snow, our thoughts immediately centered on the safety of our guests and we did not want anyone to put themselves at risk. I'm sure Babe wouldn't mind waiting an extra week to celebrate his birthday with friends.

The event to celebrate the 115th anniversary of Ruth's birth in Baltimore will still be held at Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards and take place from 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.  Anyone who is unable to attend the event on the new date is encouraged to contact the Museum at 410.727.1539.

Additionally, the Museum has moved activities from the Babe Ruth Birthplace on Saturday, February 6 to Saturday, February 13.  On that day, the Museum will show rare Babe Ruth movies at the Birthplace from 12p.m. until closing in honor of Ruth's birthday.  Admission to the Birthplace will be only $3, in honor of Ruth's playing number.

University of Cincinnati Women's Lacrosse Team Win
On December 14th, The University of Cincy lady laxers were awarded (for the 2nd year) the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Team Community Awareness Award. The award recognizes the lady Bearcats for their hard work and dedication in the community. "Being active and engaging with the community is a point of emphasis that I stress to the team," said head coach Lellie Swords. "It's important for us to give back to the community." According to the school's Bearcat website, UC participated in numerous events throughout the season, ranging from Winners Walk Tall, in which the team went into inner city schools and became character coaches and taught the younger kids about the right decisions, to Bingo Night, at which the Bearcats helped manage and arrange a game night for the Kentucky Police and the elderly community. The student-athletes also supported the American servicemen and women through projects such as Cell Phones for Soldiers and Adopt a Troop. The Bearcats also worked such events as Bras Across the Bridge to support breast cancer awareness and Pop Tab collections programs to support the Ronald McDonald House. Cincinnati focused on other youth programs as well, working the Kids' Zone at each football game while promoting the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation at various games. In addition, the Bearcats helped out with specific events such as the Nearly Naked Mile and the Adopt a Family at Christmas program. "Working with the youth programs is something that we have done since I started here," Swords said. "Whether we do youth lacrosse clinics or work the Kids' Zone at football games, it's important and rewarding to reach out to the kids.". As always, very proud of my daughter's team being the recipient of this award that demonstrates extraordinary work in their college's community. The lady Bearcats 2010 season will open on the road, traveling to Detroit on Friday, March 5th at 4pm. You Go BEARCAT Girls!!

Fighting Irish NOT Attractive to Recruits?
If you haven’t noticed the “guys” tend to pick on me about my beloved Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. “No stud recruit wants to go to South (no where) Bend”… ”They (ND) have been riding on history/prestige that won’t fly with the kids today”… ”Studs players want to go to warm climates where they don’t have to deal with cold weather, plus the warmer schools have hot chicks.”

Well gentlemen, with all due respect here are some FACTS for you. NOTRE DAME RECRUITING CLASS RANKINGS 2006- 8th included No. 1 Offensive Lineman (out of WARM Florida) 2007-8th included No. 1 Player in the country (out of WARM California) 2008- 2nd included No. 2 QB(California) and No. 1 Tight End (Ohio) 2009- 21st included No. 2 Linebacker (Hawaii) 2010- 11th included No. 2 Defensive End (Colorado) Just to note…. At the same time, the recruiting rankings for warm weather powerhouse MIAMI were: 2006- 14th 2007- 19th 2008- 5th 2009- 15th 2010-12th And for perennial national title contender, Oklahoma: 2006- 9th 2007- 14th 2008- 6th 2009- 13th 2010- 6th.

So for a team that is so rich in history and NFL pedigree, I stand by my stance that smart stud players not only want to play for Notre Dame but get a kick butt education as well. With a better record on the field, ND could recruit even better. The Notre Dame football program has fallen on hard times and without a doubt has problems, but recruiting top “studs” is not one of them. God Bless you all and Happy Thanksgiving!!

HAPPY 40th to O.J. BRIGANCE

O.J. Brigance spent twelve years playing football and is one of the only guys in town who sports two championship rings.  He was apart of our 2000 Raven Super Bowl team and the Baltimore Stallions 1995 Grey Cup team. In 2007, he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS-Lou Gehrigs disease) and this debilitating illness has left Brigance unable to move his limbs. But what he can still move is our hearts. In an effort to bring awareness and raise money for research, O.J formed Brigance Brigade Foundation and recently many of his friends, fans and former teammates gathered to celebrate his 40th birthday and raise money for his foundation. Some from the Super Bowl team included Kyle Richardson, Ray Lewis, Edwin Mulitalo, Brad Jackson, Spencer Falou (who is the nicest person ever) and Mike Flynn. Present day Ravens also showed support, Joe Flacco and T Sizzle Suggs were spotted along with one of my favorite people in the world, Art Modell.  ESPNs Sage Steele did a marvelous job as the nights emcee and there was not a dry eye in the Club Level of M&T Bank Stadium when a video of O.J.s journey was shown. His wife of 15 years, Chanda thanked the crowd and led us in a group happy birthday song for O.J. which was awesome. Some that I spotted or chatted with were Keith Mills, Bruce Cunningham, Kai Jackson, Brent Harris, Kenny Abrams, Vince Fiduccia and the gang from WBAL, Jordan Wertlieb, Claudia Grimm and Nora Koontz.
